About Six Foot Stilts
SixFootStilts is a band that thrives on curiosity, creativity, and connection. Born out of the challenges of the pandemic and rooted in years together as Return to Zero, Sly, JawnyB, and Lote stepped into a new identity, one that values experimentation, resilience, and a shared love of storytelling through music.
Our mission is simple: to make music that elevates the soul, sparks curiosity, and inspires adventure. Every album we create begins with a theme; myth, technology, society, or something stranger. We start with a deep dive including research, debate, and exploring until songs emerge that are both playful and profound, inviting listeners to dance, reflect, and sometimes even dig deeper into the world around them.
How We Make Our Music
The heart of SixFootStilts is collaboration across four creative spaces:
- SoundQuest Studio (JawnyB)
- Glengrove Studio (Sly’s city space)
- Lifeline Studio (Lote)
- Fox’s Den Studio (the rustic cabin in the Algonquin Highlands)
Songs are conceived and built in our individual studios, then brought together, shared, and refined until they feel ready. Once we’ve shaped them into form, we gather at Fox’s Den for final reviews, listening sessions, and finishing touches, a process that balances solitude with synergy, personal craft with collective vision.
Why We Do It
For us, music is storytelling immersed in sound. Themed albums give us a chance to explore big questions and curious corners of life. Whether it’s UFOs, carnival tents, or the strange magic of folklore, our songs are invitations: take them at face value or follow the threads deeper into the themes they touch. Either way, we aim to make music that moves you, emotionally, intellectually, and sometimes physically.
