This past Thursday, Sly, Lote, and I met at GreenGrove Studio for the final creative review of our latest album, OMG. As noted previously, this album is themed around the Greek pantheon.
This time, Sly shook up our usual review process. Two weeks prior to meeting, he suggested that we each independently review the vocals for all the songs and critique or suggest improvements. This gave him and Lote time to make adjustments before our in-person review session.
It turned out to be a great idea. Vocals are one area we tend to spend a lot of time on during reviews, but by the time we met, 95% of the work was already done. It freed us up to dive deeper into the other musical elements of each track—fine-tuning instrumentation, polishing transitions, and even experimenting with new effects. The extra focus really elevated the songs, and it felt like we were working at a higher creative level.
One of the most exciting parts of this session was seeing how far we’ve come since the initial song ideas. Tracks like Persephone, Defying the Sun, and Let Me In have transformed into something bigger than we’d imagined—balancing intricate arrangements with the raw energy of performance.
We started around 11 a.m. and wrapped up just after 5 p.m. That night, after Lote and I left, Sly went the extra mile. He made all the changes we had discussed during the day and sent out final copies for one last quality check.
With that, the demos for OMG are officially complete and ready to move into the post-production stage: mixing and mastering. This is where each track gets polished and made “radio ready” for release on streaming platforms like Spotify and Apple Music. Look for them in the latter half of 2025!
Interestingly, this is the first time in a couple of years that we don’t already have the theme for our next project locked in. Over the past several days, we’ve been going back and forth on potential ideas and finally narrowed it down to three. While I won’t spill the beans on the one we chose, I can tell you that the two runners-up were WooWoo & VooDoo and the Jekyll/Hyde Duality.
WooWoo & VooDoo would have explored the supernatural and the mysterious—a playful dive into myths, magic, and superstition. Meanwhile, Jekyll/Hyde Duality was all about contrasts: light and dark, good and evil, chaos and order. Both had so much potential, and maybe we’ll circle back to them in the future. But for now, we’re thrilled with the direction we’ve chosen, and we can’t wait to share more as the project unfolds.
As we wrap up 2024, it’s hard not to feel a sense of gratitude. Music has always been our way of connecting—not just with each other, but with all of you. Your encouragement and support fuel everything we do.
Here’s to another year of creating, experimenting, and sharing what we love most: the music. We hope 2025 brings you joy, inspiration, and plenty of reasons to celebrate.
Season’s greetings from JawnyB, Lote, and Sly
