This winter wasn’t too bad—until the Polar Vortex hit us this past weekend. Now it’s downright freezing—brrr! At least we can take comfort in being one-third of the way through the season.
Usually, winter means fewer activities and social commitments, and this year’s “dry January” has been the easiest yet (I think we’re in our fifth year now). All that extra time at home has been great for studio work—creating new music and preparing our tracks to be ready for uploading to the streaming platforms.
I’m feeling really optimistic about 2025. Our upcoming album—still unnamed—is well underway, and from what we’ve finished so far, the songs lean more on the rockier side. Here’s a little hint about the theme: it’s all about the esoteric, the arcane, and the mystical!
We’re also throwing around an idea for a spring project that’s a bit different from our usual approach. It’ll have a theme, but on a bigger scale, and possibly a new format. We’ll see how it all shakes out.
Reflecting on last year, I think SixFootStilts had a solid run musically. We released three new albums:
- Under the Big Top (March) – themed around circus and carnival life
- Say What? (September) – themed around everyday common sayings
- OMG (December) – centered on the Greek Pantheon
On the flip side, I didn’t meet my goal of reaching a wider audience or getting our music fully “radio ready” to upload onto the major streaming services (Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, etc.). As a newbie to mixing, I definitely underestimated the complexity and went down a lot of rabbit holes. The upside? I learned a ton. And because these were my own deadlines, I could adjust them as needed. With over 100,000 songs uploaded daily to Spotify, you really can’t afford to sound mediocre!
So, for 2025, I’ve set a more realistic goal: to get two or three albums streaming-ready, starting with UAP, followed by Rabbit Sthu and AI. In the meantime, I’ve posted demo versions of AI (Artifacts & Interludes) on SoundCloud, which you can find either on our website or directly on SoundCloud.
How about you? What did you learn last year, and what are your goals for 2025? Don’t forget to take a moment to stop and smell the roses (or slip on a pair of stilts—it’s up to you!).
