Let me start out by saying that I am not against the use of A.I. It has multiple uses in the real world. What I am opposed to is the use of it in the arts. And not simply because musicians and writers will be out of work, but because our humanity is defined by the art we produce.

Great art is born from struggle and tragedy. A life altering experience that creates emotions unique to the human race. Love, loss, jealousy, hate, exhilaration, profound sadness. Yes, you can feed a computer information about these topics and it will churn out thousands of songs or books, but it will never be able to experience emotions the way a human does. A.I. does not create new art, it simply mimics, not unlike a parrot, what it is fed. It has no soul, no emotion, no feel. How can a great book, a great song, or a great piece of art be created without the actual experience of emotion?
Any A.I.-written song will garner attention due to the novel nature of it. And it is probably as good as anything that the so-called current crop of ‘top artists’ insult our ears with. I don’t know about you, but listening to the ‘row row row your boat music’ that is produced today puts me to sleep. A.I. will only serve to exacerbate this trend. It is sad for me to think that if this is as good as it gets, that we have peaked artistically as a race, then the next generation of listeners, readers, and art lovers will be deprived of a truly great cultural experience inspired from unique human storytelling. A.I., stay out of the arts!
Enough on this subject, I have to go and write a great song!
