The Labour Day weekend is upon us which means it’s the last weekend of the Canadian National Exhibition (CNE). Living close to Toronto I have always enjoyed the practice runs the RCAF does in the surrounding areas as they get in their practice runs for their annual Air Show at the CNE. Alas it also means back to school and signals that we are in the final few weeks of the summer season.
I spent a few weeks in Newfoundland this summer. It’s a beautiful Canadian province with so much to see and do. Well worth spending some vacation time if you can. For me one of the highlights was listening to the traditional Newfoundland music as we went from place to place. I picked up an Ugly Stick and you can be sure it will make an appearance on an upcoming song!
The band spent the summer finishing off our latest endeavor, an album/CD/Playlist called Say What?. This music and lyrics are themed around common cultural sayings like: Where There’s Smoke There’s Fire, All That Glitters is Not Gold, Live By The Sword – Die By The Sword, etc.
Next weekend we are meeting at Fox’s Den Studio in the Algonquin Highlands to put the finishing touches to these songs. Generally, at this stage we all make individual notes on each of the songs and go through them one by one comparing each of our notes and making any adjustments/changes that we agree on. We can usually do this in a couple of days.
I am a bit behind in our releases, specifically our EP – Island of Misfit Songs. This EP is the place we have for songs that don’t fit the Themed Albums we work on. Currently we have three songs that are just in the mixing/mastering stage and should be released onto SoundCloud soon.
We have picked our next theme and will begin the songwriting process in earnest after we’ve finished the final touch ups for Say What?. This will keep us busy over the fall season.
